30-Day Horror Movie Challenge: Day 14 – Favorite Zombie Film…

movie poster Shaun of the Dead 2004

Tagline: A romantic comedy. With zombies.

Synopsis: “A man’s uneventful life is disrupted by the zombie apocalypse.” source

Anytime there’s a child’s slide nearby, I have to re-enact the scene where Shaun checks if the coast is clear. Thankfully, my daughter plays along. Yes we’re both adults, so what?

Yesterday’s movie fits multiple categories for me; today’s is the same. Though, I’ve watched SHAUN OF THE DEAD even more than I’ve watched WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. And I should probably be embarrassed to admit that, yet I’m not. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

There’s horror. There’s comedy. There’s really icky zombie munchfests. There’s a twenty-something’s coming of age. There’s a girl in the garden … sorry, that’s another one I imitate. All the time. I literally narrate when my cat is behind the blinds, looking outside. I get my daughter’s attention, point to the cat, and say (in my best yet quite awful British accented Ed impression), “There’s a girl in the garden.” Never gets old… to me. 🤣

My latent hipster self wanted to pick a more cerebral zombie film, like THE CURED, or the BBC series IN THE FLESH. But I just couldn’t deny my deep and abiding love for SHAUN OF THE DEAD. Now, let’s go grab a pint at the Winchester and listen to the jukebox on random.
