Tagline: Misery loves company.
Synopsis: “A state-of-the-art remake of the classic William Castle horror film about a family that inherits a spectacular old house from an eccentric uncle. There’s just one problem: the house seems to have a dangerous agenda all its own. Trapped in their new home by strangely shifting walls, the family encounters powerful and vengeful entities that threaten to annihilate anyone in their path.” source
I wasn’t sure which movie to pick today. There’s been sooooo many reboots and remakes in the last 20-ish years alone. Thinking about horror remakes always reminds me of the scene in SCREAM 4 when Kirby is answering ghostface and she names like 20 of ’em in as many seconds. 🤣 The pickins ain’t slim.
So, ultimately, I decided on THIRTEEN GHOSTS because when I first saw it in the theater, it was both scary and funny, and there was a dash of heart involving the family who lost their mum. I also enjoyed the ghosts, their backstories and their makeup. Terrific fodder for cosplay. Plus, who doesn’t love a house with its own sinister plans.
(There are definitely worse remakes out there… *cough*Halloween2007*cough*)

What’s your favorite horror film remake?
I ended up skipping this movie when it came out because it was in that bunch of remakes that included The Haunting and The House on Haunted Hill, but everyone who did see it has very fond thoughts about it. Obviously, I skipped the wrong remake.
I watched the two you mentioned also, but I think Thirteen Ghosts is way better — on its own and in terms of remakes of an original.
I watched it yesterday. I’m sad I waited so long!
Better late than never 🤓
I haven’t heard of this one but it looks like one I need to add to my list this weekend! I love a fun haunted house movie.

I think this one is seriously underrated. I thought it was pretty scary too. I do agree with Katherine though…The House on Haunted Hill and The Haunting did not require remakes. lol
Yeah, the Rob Zombie Halloween remakes. Bleh. And I like Rob Zombie films as a rule. The Lords of Salem was a creepy delight with an interesting story.
Here’s mine: https://castlemacabre.blogspot.com/2019/10/30-day-horror-movie-challenge-horror_18.html
I also liked The Lords of Salem, but I think we’re in the minority on that one. 🤓
