30-Day Horror Movie Challenge: Day 19 – The Powers of Hell or Satanism…

movie poster Hellraiser 1987

Tagline: He’ll tear your soul apart.

Synopsis: “A man finds he is given more than he bargains for when he solves the puzzle of the Lament Configuration – a doorway to hell. But his ex-lover has found a way of bringing him back, and his niece, Kirsty Lawrence, finds herself bargaining with the Cenobites, angels to some, demons to others, whose greatest pleasure is the greatest pain.” source

Have you seen HELLRAISER? If so, when you read the tagline above, do you hear Pinhead saying it instead of your own inner voice? Yes? Then you’re my kinda horror fan. 😈

The biggest reason I still love HELLRAISER after all these years is Kirsty. She solidified my growing belief in final girls as adversaries you don’t want to mess with. Their survival is thanks to their wits and strengths, not the chivalry and sacrifice of the guys around them. During my first couple viewings, it annoyed me how often Kirsty was “emotional,” yet in later years, I realized how powerful it was to show that onscreen. Women may freak out and maybe even cry, but we’ll still send your ass back to Hell.

Of course I also love Pinhead (Doug Bradley) and his crew. Horror icon so how could I not? Pinhead has this something special that draws you in — you’re terrified and mesmerized.

Oh, and just to share a random useless detail about yours truly, I’ve seen all the HELLRAISER sequels. Every. Single. One. If you have too, you know that’s not bragging. They’re not all exactly top of the line cinema. 😉 It’s a franchise I hold dear and with every new sequel I hope to find just a little taste of what the first two (or maybe three) delivered.

    1. If you’re gonna re-watch I recommend only first 3. The others, well, let’s just say I’d spend that time on other new-to-you horror movies or rewatching ones you know you love.
