30-Day Horror Movie Challenge: Day 30 – Favorite of All Time…

movie poster Halloween 1978

Tagline: The Night HE Came Home!

Synopsis: “Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again.” source

Most everyone who knows me knows my all-time favorite horror movie is the original 1978 HALLOWEEN. Michael Myers has been haunting my nightmares since 1989. What some friends don’t know is that the first HALLOWEEN wasn’t the first one I watched. *gasp*

I actually saw HALLOWEEN 4 first, then binged the first three, which, back in 1989, meant renting all the VHS tapes from our local pizza/video store and watching them back to back. See yesterday’s post for how the third movie fared with me. But there’s something about the first HALLOWEEN that really hits a nerve. The cold, emotionless masked killer. The score. The unwitting teenagers. Jamie Lee Curtis and her glorious feathered hair.

A recurring nightmare I have is waking up to a dark room, not being able to move, and watching as my closet door opens, slowly, inch by inch, the white of Michael’s mask fills the crack and then becomes fully visible, then he rushes out at me, knife in hand.

Yeah, it’s a load of laughs that dream.

But, sadly, all good things must come to an end, and I have a feeling my all-time favorite is gonna change after this year – for the first time in 30 years. I alluded to this in my Day 8 post. The decision will simmer until next Halloween when I’ll decide one way or the other.
