movie poster It Follows (2014)Sexually transmitted horror is certainly nothing new.

Though, IT FOLLOWS is more about that moment in our youth when we realize we’re not immortal, that we will age, even die someday, any day really, than about the dangers of sex or STDs.

Synopsis: “For 19-year-old Jay, fall should be about school, boys and weekends out at the lake. But after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, she finds herself plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, or something, is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her teenage friends must find a way to escape the horrors that seem to be only a few steps behind.” (source)

Unsettling is the best word to describe IT FOLLOWS. We never know what the time period is or what season it is. Once we’re absorbed in the story we never know where IT will be. The score, much like in DRIVE, is integral to the movie’s overall tone and atmosphere. I’m convinced if you watched IT FOLLOWS in silence it’d be like 62% less terrifying. The movie works on multiple levels; however, “the best movie of the decade” may be overreaching just a bit. But the story will certainly infect you with the heebie jeebies.

Highly recommended if you enjoyed movies like CONTRACTED or TEETH.
