The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. (The Notebook, 2004)
I haven’t read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks so I’m not sure if this is a direct quote from that book or if the screenwriters came up with it. Whatever is the case, I love this line. Probably because the whole film is so doggone emotional and grips your heart right from the start.
It reminds me that love is meant to uplift you, not tear you down.
Side note: To this day, I still cannot make it through that scene with the two of them in the bed without sobbing uncontrollably. I guess because we all want that, right? The passion that lasts a lifetime. That connection with another human being and devotion to staying together through it all. Or maybe it’s simply the hope of loving someone for decades, knowing they’ll be with you until the end, then follow you straight on through to the other side, wherever that may lead.
I’m getting a little moist in the eyes just thinking about it.
